Maruti Suzuki is gearing up to showcase its first electric vehicle, the e Vitara, at the 2025 Bharat Mobility Expo, which kicks off on 17 January. This much-anticipated EV is the production-ready version of the eVX concept unveiled at the 2023 Auto Expo. Slated for launch by the end of the financial year, the e Vitara will be sold through Maruti’s premium Nexa showroom network.
A Bold Step into the EV Market
The e Vitara marks a significant milestone for Maruti Suzuki as it ventures into the electric vehicle segment. Revealed globally at the start of November, the EV introduces a new electric platform, cutting-edge features, and an innovative design language that sets it apart from the brand’s existing lineup.
Powertrain and Battery Options
Globally, the e Vitara is available with two battery pack options and two motor configurations, and a similar offering is expected for the Indian market. These options will cater to a wide range of buyers, ensuring a mix of affordability and performance to suit varying preferences.
Taking on a Competitive Segment
The e Vitara will enter a rapidly growing segment of electric SUVs, competing against the likes of the Hyundai Creta EV, Tata Curvv EV, MG ZS EV, Mahindra BE 6, and Kia Carens EV. Future rivals will include the Toyota Urban Cruiser EV, a Skoda Kushaq-based EV, and a Honda Elevate-based EV, both expected to arrive in 2027.
A Glimpse into the Future
Maruti Suzuki’s debut EV underscores the automaker’s commitment to adapting to the evolving automotive landscape. With the e Vitara poised to challenge established players and new entrants alike, it’s set to be a key player in shaping India’s electric mobility future.
